Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters is moving forward following the recent departure of Lyon County director Jacque Wellnitz.
President and CEO Mary Shannon says Big Brothers Big Sisters will continue its work to connect mentors with students as it determines overall next steps for the local program. Shannon says the immediate path forward includes local Match Support Specialist Fallon Tyson as well as “shared service staff and other program colleagues” statewide.
While the state agency and its Community Leadership Council makes the plan for future operations, Shannon says work will also continue to “strengthen operations” after the Emporia agency had a $40,000 deficit last year and has been operating at a deficit the past several years. Shannon says the deficit is a situation where fundraising hasn’t met expenses.
Prior director Jacque Wellnitz started a development management role with CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness earlier this month.
