The chances for strong to severe thunderstorm activity is increasing across the KVOE listening area.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Lyon and most surrounding counties until 9 pm Monday. All hazards are possible, but the lead risks will be hail to 2 inches in diameter, or egg size, and wind gusts up to 70 mph.
Another concern with these storms will be their forward movement — possibly 60 to 75 mph. Brief heavy rainfall is also expected with any storms that develop.
Lyon, Chase, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are currently in a slight risk category while far southeast Coffey and southeast Greenwood counties remain in an enhanced risk area. Morris County is still in the marginal risk area.
