Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church’s Senior Meals Program is continuing to grow in its first three months of taking place.
The meals occur at the church at 1508 W 12th Avenue every 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The meals are $5 per person and are for seniors ages 60 and older.
According to Pastor Kent Happel, who joined KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 Segment on Monday, Happel says discussions began last fall and the needs for senior citizens ages 60 and over.
Happel says the first week they held the meal, they had 37 attend, and eventually has grown into the 40s, 50s and even close to 60 attend. Happel says this is not a fundraiser for the church, however, it covers the cost of the meals.
Happel says there’s been a group of five to six people that sat down and figured out what’s on the menu based on what other senior centers offer as a meal.
To reserve your spot for a meal, contact the church’s office by Noon on the day before the meal takes place at (620) 342-5850. Residents are asked to enter the building on the north side of the church, but handicapped accessibility is available through the south entrance.
