An Emporia man facing a count of aggravated witness intimidation in one criminal case working through Lyon County District Court will now have a hearing after a separate case involving more serious charges.
Travis Wade Westcott was originally set to have trial as early as next week in the witness intimidation case, but defense counsel Paul Dean asked for a delay so the attempted murder case against Westcott could be resolved. Judge Lee Fowler agreed and set a pretrial for June 17 in the witness intimidation case.
The two cases reflect different timetables of alleged criminal activity. The attempted-murder count against Westcott is part of a case involving 25 counts, also including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated witness intimidation, stalking and criminal threat. Those charges involve several alleged incidents between January 2020 and May 2023, including allegedly trying to kill a woman in October 2022.
Westcott allegedly violated the attempted murder case’s bond conditions late last year and was then charged with aggravated intimidation and violating a protection order.
