Isolated severe thunderstorm warnings did not result in any severe weather reports Saturday evening.
Strong storms in place for over an hour west of Emporia finally triggered a pair of warnings between 6-7 pm. There was one hail report — nickel-sized seven miles northwest of Bushong — but the National Weather Service standard for severe hail is quarter-sized.
Rainfall totals are currently pending. If you have rain totals or storm reports from Saturday, message the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863.
Storms culminated an extremely windy day that included a straight-line non-storm wind gust of 61 mph at the Emporia Municipal Airport, just below a 63 mph gust at Concordia for the highest in the National Weather Service Topeka office’s coverage area. Russell recorded a 67 mph non-storm gust. Dodge City and Garden City both had gusts of 64 mph.
Sunday will also be blustery, although southwesterly winds will be as high as 40 mph through the day. Wind advisories affect Lyon, Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties from 10 am to 7 pm. Like Saturday, outdoor burns will be strongly discouraged Sunday.
Area residents have a slight chance of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday, but the current forecast has the rest of the week as dry.
