C of E Park was the site of Take Back the Night hosted by SOS on Tuesday night.
Attendees could speak out and tell their stories and participate in a march to promote the prevention of Sexual Assault and different ways to keep people save from those incidents from happening. The event is a part of a busy month for SOS with April being Child Abuse Prevention Month as well as Sexual Assault Month.
SOS Executive Director Mickey Edwards says it’s really important to show the Emporia community and show survivors there is support for them locally. Edwards adds Take Back the Night has a long history both locally and nationally.
Part of SOS’ core mission since it began in 1976, has been to support those impacted by sexual violence and Take Back the Night is one way it accomplishes this.
SOS will next host 2022 Miss Kansas Ayanna Schumacher at 6 p.m. on April 18 at Flint Hills Technical College.
