The Emporia State softball team won twice on Friday against Missouri Southern at the Trusler Sports Complex. ESU notched the Lions 3-2 in game one despite being outhit 8-5. Two of the Emporia State runs were unearned. E-State manufactured their first run thanks to two steals by Abbey Ward and a Lady Hornet groundout to tie the game at one. The Lions committed two errors in the bottom of the third as ESU took the lead. Southern scored one in the fifth but Gracie Rabe (8-8) limited the damage and lasted 6.1 innings to earn the win while scattering eight hits with three strikeouts.
ESU left no doubt in game two with a five-run fifth to close out an 8-0 run-rule victory to take the team’s first sweep since late March. Jordan Harrison (7-3) pitched a complete game shutout allowing just two Lion hits. ESU capitalized on three more MSSU errors to score four unearned runs in the game. Emma Furnish finished a perfect 3-for-3 in game two with a game-high three runs. ESU improves to 28-17 on the year and 12-10 in the MIAA and welcomes Pittsburg State for a series Saturday. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
