Carla Fessler is branching out into a new role.
Long known for her work with children, Fessler is now serving as the interim director for the Emporia Senior Center, having accepted the role effective Monday. She tells KVOE News she is excited for her new role — although she initially didn’t feel she could take on the job. Fessler met with Senior Center board member Jeff Hodges and his wife, Senior Center volunteer Sonia Hodges, and she started submitting ideas for potential programs and events.
Fessler served as SOS’ first director of the Supervised Visit and Exchange Center from 1998-2000. She also was an elementary teacher at Logan Avenue School from 2000-2005 following that experience with time as a counselor at Logan Avenue until 2009 and then at Riverside until her official retirement in 2022. Fessler was also director of Camp Alexander from 2017-2023 and a clinic manager at High Plains Wellness from 2023 until accepting the director role at the Senior Center.
Fessler takes over, at least temporarily, from Ian Boyd, who led the Senior Center from 2018 to this past January.
Fessler will be on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:20 am Monday, along with Board President Jan Loux and board member Jeff Hodges.
