Sentencing is coming Wednesday afternoon in an Emporia aggravated arson case.
The hearing is at 3:30 pm in the case against Donovan Williams, who accepted a no-contest plea agreement in February on single counts of aggravated arson, aggravated child endangerment and criminal use of explosives.
Williams was facing 11 counts, including attempted first-degree murder and multiple counts of endangerment, aggravated endangerment and criminal use of explosives after he allegedly threw a homemade incendiary device into an occupied apartment at 825 Congress almost exactly a year ago. The remaining charges were dismissed.
Williams’ attorney, John Boyd, is asking for a sentence of 36 months probation instead of up to eight years in prison if sentenced consecutively on all three counts, citing concerns about mental health and substance abuse treatment if Williams is sentenced to prison.
