Final work is underway on a pair of projects within USD 386 Madison Virgil.
According to USD 386 Superintendent Tammy Baird, repair work on the Madison gym’s roof, which was damaged during a severe thunderstorm last summer, is nearly wrapped up. The only item remaining on the checklist is the installation of the gym’s fire system and Baird tells KVOE News original plans were for the repairs to be completed by January, however, the repair process was far more extensive than what they had originally expected.
Storm winds peeled the west half of the roof off the existing roof and folded it on top of itself early last August. Due to the damage, the majority of activities, namely sporting events, had to be moved to other locations for several months.
Once the majority of the damage was repaired, activities were able to resume in the gymnasium in January according to Baird.
In addition to the update on the gym repairs, Baird also offered a progress report on the district’s new agriculture education building. She says the building has been fully erected just east of the high school in Madison with interior work currently underway.
Her hope is the building will be ready for use by the fall semester. Once it is ready to go, Baird says the district’s vocational agriculture curriculum will take place inside the building along with some other ag-related activities.
The building was funded in part between area residents and the district which Baird says contributed around $50,000 to the project. She says in addition to academic activities, the building will be available for community use, however, the exact parameters for said use still need to be ironed out.
