Outdoor burning will be discouraged in several area counties and banned in at least one Monday due to dry, windy conditions.
Southerly winds gusts as high as 40-50 mph, depending on the county, will combine with high temperatures in the low 70s and dry grasses to create a very high fire danger areawide. Currently, Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties are in a wind advisory from 11 am to 6 pm. Chase County is also in a burn ban at least all day Monday.
Besides the fire danger, winds at these speeds could lead to power outages and will definitely blow around unsecured objects like Polycarts. High-profile vehicles like commercial trucks, especially those traveling eastbound and westbound, may have difficulty keeping their lanes during gusty conditions.
