The Emporia State baseball team scored the last five runs of the game but couldn’t come from behind in a 9-7 loss at Washburn on Tuesday. Washburn scored eight in the middle three innings of the game and tacked on one in the seventh for a 9-2 lead, but the Hornets responded with a Patryk Hernandez grand slam in the eighth. Jackson Truman drove in a run on a single in the 9th thanks to an Ichabod error. ESU had the go-ahead run at the plate but struck out twice to end the game. Opener Seth Stover was solid giving up just one hit in his two innings. Grant Huffman (0-1) allowed four runs with two walks. Andrew Rantz finished 3-for-3 for E-State.
