Formal charges are pending in Wabaunsee County against a Morris County man found slouched over his steering wheel near Alma early Wednesday.
Undersheriff Eric Kirsch says Corporal Jon Sumner was on patrol and found a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of the Kansas Highway 4-Kansas Highway 99 junction shortly before 4:15 am. after blocking the vehicle from possibly rolling away or driving away, Sumner woke up the driver, identified as 25-year-old Dustin Marquarndt of Dwight, and asked Marquarndt to step out so Sumner could investigate potential impairment and the discovery of a firearm — which led, according to Kirsch, to the discovery of illegal drugs “in plain view.” Kirsch says deputies then found about a gram of methamphetamine, four grams of cocaine and various paraphernalia items.
Marquarndt was arrested on suspicion of possessing narcotics, marijuana and paraphernalia. He was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, illegal parking on a highway and failure to wear a seat belt.
