White Auditorium was the site of one groovy fundraiser Friday evening.
Once again the auditorium played host to Flint Hills Technical College’s annual Gala and Auction supporting scholarships for FHTC students and the Wrangler Student Crisis Relief Fund. The 22nd annual event comes with the college still celebrating its 60th anniversary diamond jubilee which led to the evening’s groovy 60s theme.
FHTC President Dr. Caron Daugherty says Friday night, and the months leading up to it, was a celebration of the past and a fundraiser for the future.
As has been the case the past several years, the main auditorium was jampacked with generous bidders which brought a smile to the face of FHTC Vice President and gala organizer Mike Crouch. He tells KVOE News that every year there is a need for funds to support their students and every year the community turns out in waves to help meet it.
Along with bidding on a number of both live and silent auction items, attendees were also able to take part in a $500 raffle, the Luck be a Lady Tonight dice roll for a pair of diamond earrings courtesy of Kari’s Diamonds and Bridal and a fund the need opportunity. All of these efforts managed to bring in a total of $186,500.
Before the start of those activities, guests were able to get a taste, literally, of what they were supporting as students in the FHTC Culinary Arts Department once again provided the evening’s meal. In addition to the culinary arts department, the evening also showcased the works and talents of the college’s multimedia design, network technology, welding and engineering departments.
