The Emporia State softball team used a five-run fifth inning to on the way to a 6-2 victory over #24 Washburn on Senior Day Saturday at the Trusler Sports Complex. ESU jumped out early after a Washburn error allowed an ESU runner to score for a 1-0 lead, but E-State gave the run right back with two errors of their own in the second. The pitchers kept the score down until the fifth when Lexi Williams singled up the middle to put ESU in front before Alexis Dial scored two runs on a double. Josie Harrison capped the scoring with a 2-run homer to left field. Washburn got one back in the seventh but flied out to right to end the game. Williams, Harrison, and McKensy Glass all finished 2-for-3 for ESU while Gracie Rabe (9-9) scattered seven hits in 7.0 innings for the complete game win allowing two unearned runs.
Game two was halted due to lightning in the bottom of the sixth. After a 58-minute delay, the game was suspended with the Lady Hornets leading 4-3. Washburn had led for the majority of the game but Dial cleared the bases with a double in the fifth to give ESU the lead. The game will be resumed on Monday. The start time is to be determined.
