The Topeka man accused of shooting one person and holding four total against their will in an Emporia incident this past weekend begins the court process Tuesday.
Tyler Stephen Seifert, age 39, was formally charged Monday with six counts, including two of aggravated assault and one each of kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and criminal discharge of a firearm.
Seifert’s first court appearance is at 1:15 pm in downtown Emporia.
Siefert was charged after Emporia Police began investigating a shots fired call at 701 State late Saturday night. Police Capt. Lisa Hayes says Seifert barricaded himself and several others inside the house. Officers used the Special Response Team to handle a search warrant as part of the incident, and the law enforcement presence on site also included Lyon County deputies and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Hayes says one person had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health for treatment. Officers have not released information about the other three alleged victims in this case

Noon Monday: Topeka man arrested after alleged shooting, standoff in central Emporia
Emporia Police say there are four victims after Saturday night’s shooting and standoff incident in central Emporia.
Police Capt. Lisa Hayes says officers were called to 701 State just before 11 pm after at least one report of shots fired near that address. As officers arrived, the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Tyler Seifert of Topeka, barricaded himself and several people inside the house.
The Emporia Police Special Response Team was used to handle a search warrant. One person had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health for treatment.
Officers have not released information about the other three alleged victims in this case,
Seifert was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
