The Emporia High softball team finished 1-1 in the Spartan Classic that wrapped up Saturday at the Trusler Sports Complex.
After Emporia High defeated Life Prep, 16-1, on Friday, Blue Valley Southwest defeated the Lady Spartans, 11-2, on Saturday.
Blue Valley Southwest jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and never gave up the lead. Emporia High scored its first run in the first on an RBI groundout by Marley Sewell. The Timberwolves then added three in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth, and two in the seventh. Chloe Steele scored the Lady Spartans’ final run in the seventh on an error.
Clara Williams led the way for the Lady Spartans at the plate going 2-for-3.
Emporia High coach Tommy McClure said they learned things from playing a quality Class 5A opponent.
Emporia High is now 6-12 on the season. The Lady Spartans will resume their doubleheader at Topeka High on Monday and conclude the regular season at home on Thursday against Hayden.
