Though we may be living in a digital world, proper disposal of physical documents is still in high demand.
Take it from the staff of ESB Financial which saw several hundred vehicles pass through its 8th and Merchant location Saturday morning to take advantage of the bank’s Free Shred Day. ESB Financial President Micahel Black says given that most transactions are beginning to take place online rather than in person, the turnout Saturday was surprising, but encouraging as proper disposal of sensitive documents is the only true defense against those trying to steal your information.
While cybercrime has become a more common occurrence in recent years, Black says residents should not turn a blind eye to their physical documents especially those that are lying in their mailbox.
In addition to properly disposing of sensitive materials, Black encourages residents to always be vigilant when it comes to sensitive information, whether it is online or on paper. In total, this year’s shred day collected over 10,000 lbs of waste over two hours.
