WeAct: We are Emporia Area Community Theatre will have a new home for its upcoming theater season.
The Emporia Arts Council announced this past week that WeAct and the EAC had decided to part ways after several years. WeAct President Alaska Turner tells KVOE News the two entities were simply headed in different directions.
EAC Director Dawn Young says she wishes the very best for WeAct in the future and believes the split between the two will open the door for more opportunities for both.
WeAct began before the COVID-19 pandemic as an extension of the EAC’s outreach program and fell under the EAC’s 501 (c)3 non-profit status umbrella. With the recent separation, WeAct will be stepping up its fundraising efforts to help continue bringing more productions to the community in the future.
While it is actively seeking donors and benefactors, one thing WeAct is not searching for now is a new home. Following the separation announcement, it was also revealed WEACT had entered into a partnership with the Emporia Granada Theatre which will serve as the program’s new home for the foreseeable future.
Granada Director Hank Osterhout says the partnership was a logical decision.
With its new partnership in place, WeAct is gearing up for a busy next few months starting in late May. According to Turner, WeAct will be putting on two one-act plays next month at the Peter Pan Park Boathouse.
The productions will include Fractured Fairytales and Teen Mystery on June 14 and 15 at 7 pm at the boathouse. Auditions for the shows will take place at Peter Pan Park from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm May 23 and 24.
