A reported structure fire led to the evacuation of the Michelin facility in east Emporia Monday afternoon.
Emporia Fire crews were called to the facility just after 2:40 pm and found light smoke coming from the east side of the building upon arrival according to Batallion Chief Ryan Conley. Upon entry, Conley says there was a small pile of debris smoldering in the facility, however, they found no active fire.
Crews quickly extinguished the pile and no injuries were reported. The facility was evacuated for roughly an hour due to the situation and workers were cleared to re-enter the offices around 3:40 pm.
Conley says the area where the debris pile was located remained closed off until EFD completed its investigation.
