Federal funding has been announced for the Strong City Housing Authority — and it’s already helping to make some improvements.
Nearly $50,000 is coming after an announcement by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. As a baseline, this money will let the Housing Authority make capital investments to its public housing. More specifically, it can use funds to develop, finance, modernize and manage improvements.
Housing Authority Director Lisa Miller says some funds are already being used at 305 Fifth in Strong City. There are several projects getting funded, including new showers and tubs for nine of the 20 units, new GFI electric outlets and new bathroom lighting. The money lets the Housing Authority check to make sure all hot water heater overflow tanks are up to code and there are individual water shutoffs for all units. It also helps to fund remodeling efforts once people move out of units.
Grants are made through HUD’s Capital Fund Program, offering annual funds for construction, renovation and modernization projects such as roof replacements, water conservation installation or energy-efficiency upgrades.
