There has been a fair amount of above-ground preparation work on Interstate 35 near the Lincoln Street bridge the past several weeks, but Lincoln Street hasn’t been closed at the bridge just yet. That could well change before the end of the month.
The city says the plan now is to close Lincoln Street the last week of May and to keep it closed through the remainder of the project, which could be fall 2025.
The bridge is being replaced due to age. The city has said the finished product will look similar to the Interstate 35 bridge over Burlingame Road.
A little bit sooner than that, the city will have a special public meeting next week on the significant 24th and Prairie water main replacement project. The meeting is at 6 pm Tuesday at White Auditorium’s City Conference Room 1AB. City personnel will discuss the project’s scope, schedule and community impacts to traffic and water services for businesses and residents. There will also be a Q&A session after the initial presentation.
Work is set to begin by early June at 24th and Industrial. Work will then move east on 24th to Prairie before going south to 12th, replacing current pipe with waterlines up to 24 inches in diameter. Work could go through summer or even fall 2025.
