The tradition of Mother’s Day was established by Anna Jarvis who organized a memorial service at her late mother’s church in Grafton, West Virginia on May 12, 1907. Mother’s Day would become a nationally recognized holiday, observed every second Sunday of May, following a proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914.
