The Emporia State track and field team posted seven provisional qualifying marks on Friday at the Concordia Twilight Qualifier in Seward, Neb.
On Friday, Trenden Collins improved his high jump mark to 7 feet-1/4 inch and placed fourth. It was the second best jump in program history and Collins became just the third Hornet to clear seven feet. The ESU 4x100m relay team of Kingsley Bennet, Ty Anderson, Isaac Tarango, and Carter Cox improved their time to 40.23 to finish second. Tarango and Cox were also on a provisional qualifying team with Jack Watson and Jake Johnson for a provisional time in the 4x400m. Xavier Hall had a provisional qualifier in the 110m hurdles & Bennet also turned in a provisional mark in the 100m dash.
On the women’s side, Abigael Reid finished second in the women’s 400m hurdles with a qualifying mark. Mele Taula won the shot put and has hit a provisional qualifying throw in every meet this season.
The Hornets then made the trek west to Kearney, Neb. for the Loper Twilight Qualifier on Saturday. Reid picked up another runner-up finish in the women’s 400m hurdles with a provisional mark and Hall finished second in the men’s 110m hurdles. The Hornets will now await for their fate to be announced on Tuesday, May 14 when the national championship field is set.
