Three Missouri residents have been arrested after an alleged failure to yield incident near Emporia, led to the discovery of illegal drugs.
Lyon County Deputy Collin Brozek says the incident developed on Interstate 35 near mile marker 137, or a mile west of Road U, shortly before 5:40 pm Wednesday. Brozek says a vehicle failed to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle helping a disabled motorist, so the car in question was stopped. The investigating deputy noticed an odor of marijuana in the car and handled a probable cause search — discovering over 400 grams of marijuana, nearly 120 THC vape cartridges, assorted edible THC products and drug paraphernalia.
The stop then led to the arrests of 22-year-old Raeanne Franco and 24-year-old Julio Santoyo, both of Kansas City, Missouri, and Maelynn Martinez, age 21 of Blue Springs, Missouri, on suspicion of distributing marijuana, possessing an unspecified controlled substance and possessing paraphernalia.
Formal charges are pending, and Brozek says additional charges may be presented as the investigation continues.
