Two area schools had athletes qualify for state track and field as part of the Class 3A regional at Halstead on Thursday.
The Osage City boys qualified for state in eight events Chase Williams won the discus with a mark of 161-11 and also took second in the shot put (49-6.50). Quenten Stark finished second in the high jump (6-0) and the 400m (50.67). The 4x800m relay team of Luke Kerns, Reed Silver, Smith and Stark finished second with a time of 8:53.54. Smith finished third in the high jump (5-10). Kasen Parsons took third in the javelin (161-7). Josiah Smith finished fourth in the pole vault (12-0). The 4x400m relay team of Silver, Smith, Stark and Theel finished fourth (3:33.61). As a team, the Indians finished in a tie for fourth with 64 points.
The Osage City girls qualified for state in four events. Lexi Boss won the discus with a toss of 144-6, setting a new school record in the event. Boss finished third in the javelin (125-5), breaking her previous school record in the event. Emory Speece finished third in the 1,600m (5:41.10) and took fourth in the 800m (2:30.92). The Indians finished ninth as a team with 31 points.
The Council Grove boys qualified for state in three events. Lakoddah Downes won the pole vault with a clearance of 13-0. Gunner Gleason finished fourth in the shot put (47-5.50). Evan Carr finished fourth in the triple jump (42-2).
State begins next Friday at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.
