The Emporia High boys golf team has qualified for day two of the Class 5A State Golf Championship at Sand Creek Station in Newton.
Emporia High made the cut finishing day one in fifth place with a score of 315. The Spartans are 18 strokes behind current leader Kapaun Mt. Carmel, 14 strokes behind Maize South and St. James Academy who are tied for second, and 11 strokes behind fourth-place Goddard Eisenhower. Individually, Hudson Sauder is 12th shooting a 74. Will Walker is 24th with a 79. Nolan Jacob is 30th with an 80. Jared Johnson is 42nd with an 82. Marley Harter is 67th with an 88. Cooper Rech is 90th with a 109.
The final round is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday.
At the Class 3A tournament at Emporia Golf Course, Council Grove’s Drew Buchman is tied for seventh after the first round with a score of 75. Council Grove’s Trace Adams did not make the cut for the final round after shooting a 97.
At the Class 1A tournament in Hesston, Olpe did not make the cut for the final round finishing in 12th place.
