There is now a second primary election battle coming for one Lyon County elected position.
Warren Schmidt filed as a Republican for the County Commission Third District position currently held by longtime Commission Chair Rollie Martin. Schmidt joins Chris Bartel, who filed early last month, on the ballot.
Democrat Bill Nienstedt is also on the ballot for the County Commission Third District.
The other county position set for a primary is the County Commission Second District on the Republican side. Incumbent Doug Peck is being challenged by Sid Morgan.
All other county department head positions have candidates filed:
*Republican Amy Aranda is running for County Attorney to replace Marc Goodman, who is retiring.
*Republican Amie Jackson has filed for County Clerk to replace Tammy Vopat, who is retiring.
*Republican Wendy Weiss has filed for re-election to Register of Deeds.
*Republican Jeff Cope has filed for re-election to Sheriff.
*Democrat Sharon Gaede has filed for re-election to County Treasurer.
None of these aforementioned candidates currently have primary or general election challengers.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is at noon June 3.
