A second educator has filed for the Kansas Senate 17th District.
Lillian Lingenfelter, currently an Emporia school board member and a Burlington High School history teacher, has filed for the post as a Democrat. Lingenfelter was elected to the school board in 2021 and has spent the past year as board vice president in addition to time as the district’s delegate to the Kansas Association of School Boards and separate time on the Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission.
Lingenfelter obviously sees education as a key pillar in her run for the Kansas Senate 17th District seat, but she also sees other pillars that intertwine as she begins her bid.
Lingenfelter joins Republican Mike Argabright, the longtime USD 252 Southern Lyon County superintendent and one-time state superintendent of the year, on the ballot.
Both are hoping to replace Jeff Longbine, who is retiring from the Senate after 14 years of service.
