It was a sight to behold inside of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980 Thursday night as several hundred area residents filled the building all to support an individual who has given much of his life to benefit the lives of others.
Gregg Gasche is well known in the local area as a member of the Lyon County Fairboard, a supporter of area rodeo activities and for volunteering for numerous charitable causes. Earlier this year, Gasche was diagnosed with brain cancer for which he is currently undergoing treatment.
Thursday night, the VFW played host to a burger burn and auction to raise money to support Gasche’s medical expenses. The event was organized by several individuals including VFW Manager Karen Baker who upon seeing the evening’s turnout stated she was amazed, but not surprised by the support shown for Gasche.
She adds that support was already strong before the event began and it only grew throughout the evening.
Also in attendance Thursday were members of Gasche’s family including his son Adam Gasche who was overcome with emotion by the evening’s turnout. He tells KVOE News his father has remained in good spirits through his treatment.
The evening’s activities included a hamburger dinner, raffle and live auction with totals to be announced at a later time.
