The Emporia State track and field team hosted the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Welch Stadium Thursday through Saturday this weekend. The championships generated several new facility and national records. On Friday, Trenden Collins couldn’t register a height on the high jump and finished 16th in the country for ESU. Saturday, freshman Mele Taula finished 11th in the javelin throwing 150 feet-7 inches. She was 12th in the women’s shot up tossing the shot 48 feet- 1/2 inch. Senior Travis Morrison wrapped up his career 15th in the country in the men’s shotput with a throw of 55 feet-9 inches. The Hornets had six athletes participate in seven events in the 2024 national meet, the most for the program since 2015.
