In less than a week, the ballots for the 2024 election cycle will be finalized.
The filing and withdrawal deadline is at noon Monday. Typically, the deadline is June 1 but that falls on a Saturday.
To this point, all of Lyon County’s elected positions have at least one candidate already filed:
*Republican Amy Aranda is running for County Attorney to replace Marc Goodman, who is retiring.
*Republican Amie Jackson has filed for County Clerk to replace Tammy Vopat, who is retiring.
*Republican Wendy Weiss has filed for re-election to Register of Deeds.
*Republican Jeff Cope has filed for re-election to Sheriff.
*Democrat Sharon Gaede has filed for re-election to County Treasurer.
So far, these are the only candidates for these positions.
That’s not the case for the two County Commission seats up for election. For District Two, Republican incumbent Doug Peck has a primary challenge from Sid Morgan. For District Three, the seat vacating with Rollie Martin not running for a fifth term, four Republicans — Chris Bartel, Warren Schmidt, Jarom Smith and Jon Vopat — have filed along with Democrat Bill Nienstedt.
County Clerk Tammy Vopat will be KVOE’s Newsmaker guest at 7:20 am Friday with more information.
