The 86th annual Flint Hills Rodeo is blasting out of the chute Thursday night, and KVOE’s On-Air Chat this week highlighted all the activities taking place through Saturday night.
Organizer Buck Bailey says he can’t wait to see the competition, which is among the best in the world.
New this year is breakaway roping. Organizer Alexis Hatcher says top local and national ropers are taking part.
Thursday night is Kids Night, where children ages 12 and under get in free. The trade show opens at 6 pm, with the kids’ stick horse rodeo also beginning at 6. The rodeo officially begins at 8 pm.
Friday night is Military Appreciation Night, meaning free admission for all active and retired military service personnel with military ID. Slack begins at 8 am, with the trade show and kids’ stick horse rodeo at 6 pm and the rodeo at 8 pm. The cowboy and cowgirl dance is at 10 pm.
Activities conclude Saturday, with the rodeo at 2 pm, trade show and stick horse rodeo at 6, final rodeo performance at 8 pm and dance at 10 pm.
