Lyon County Commissioners have begun hearing appropriation requests for the 2025 budgeting cycle.
Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness made the first request of the year during the commission’s weekly action meeting Thursday morning. Executive Director Amanda Cunningham submitted a $412,000 request, a three percent increase over last year’s appropriation of $400,000.
Cunningham says the combination of new Crosswinds projects and the fact the agency has not had an increase since 2019 were contributing factors in the decision to increase the ask this year.
Cunningham says not receiving the full allotment from the county would not be detrimental the agency’s bottom line. That being said, however, Cunningham believes approving the ask would send an important message to local residents.
Commissioners are set to hear additional appropriation requests when they convene for a study session at 9 am next Wednesday inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers. That meeting will also include a visit to the Lyon County History Center.
In other business Thursday, commissioners approved a quartet of financial requests for Lyon County District Court submitted by Ruth Wheeler. The approved requests included $11,081 for DC Windows server, $39,136 for computer upgrades and $1,198 for a UPS Tower all from Jayhawk Software.
The final request totaled $2,500 to be paid to Voice Products for labor and travel for the installation of computers. All requests were approved unanimously.
The Lyon County Commission’s next action meeting will be held at 9 am Thursday inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
