Early to mid-evening storms Tuesday didn’t linger for an extensive amount of time but they certainly left an impact in parts of the KVOE listening area.
In Emporia, a lightning strike downed a tree in the 1000 block of Lawrence Street. The tree did land on a parked vehicle causing some damage and blocked traffic for a short time.
Thankfully nobody was in the vehicle at the time of the strike and no injuries were reported. Emporia Public Works crews and Emporia Police cleared the debris from the roadway roughly an hour after the strike.
In Chase County, the main concern Tuesday night was that of flooding as heavy rainfall did lead to the issuance of a flood warning that was supposed to go through 7:15 am but has been canceled. Shortly after storms developed Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh reported water over the roadway on US Highway 50 at mile marker 312 and Kansas Highway 177 at mile marker 36.
There were also significant rain totals in Chase County including 4.6 inches in Cedar Point and 3 inches roughly 2 miles south of Cedar Point. Elsewhere, rain totals were much lighter including at the KVOE studios which picked up only 0.10 inches.
Other totals include:
*1100 block of Constitution – 0.15 inches
*Deerbrook Addition – 0.10 inches
*Greenwood/Lyon County line – 1.55 inches
*5 miles southwest of Olpe – 1.25 inches
*6 miles northwest of Gridley – 1.35 inches
