The latest community event put on by Emporia Main Street in cooperation with the Lyon County History Center and Trox Gallery and Gifts did its best to puzzle a jam-packed room of puzzle solvers Tuesday night.
The inaugural Jig Saw Jam organized in cooperation between Main Street, Trox and the History Center took place on the center’s third floor Tuesday evening. The event was a clear hit as more than 80 people and over 20 teams took part in the sold-out event looking to see if they could be the fastest to solve a 500-piece puzzle.
Main Street Director Casey Woods noted the event was a great combination of the Main Street mission, on a slightly lower scale, and a recent charge from National Main Street.
Trox supplied the puzzles for the evening’s event with owner Kaila Mock saying it was a great way to get residents away from their screens and flex both their brain muscles and social skills.
History Center Deputy Director Lisa Soller says that at first glance, the event may not appear event the center would normally host, but the truth is it couldn’t be a better fit.
Woods says based on Tuesday’s turnout and interest from outside the community, it is likely the Jigsaw Jam could become a regular event in Emporia.
Mock says she would love to be a part of another event and encouraged residents to start practicing now as she plans to make the next event more challenging than the first.
Prizes were awarded to the top three teams and individuals in several categories. The top overall team Tuesday night was the trio Twisted Sisters who finished their puzzle in just over an hour.
