Emporia State’s Welch Stadium will be one of three sites for state football championships this November.
This was a part of the changes to postseason formats and championship sites approved by the KSHSAA Executive Board this week.
Welch Stadium will host the Class 6A State Championship at 2 p.m. Friday, November 29. On Saturday, November 30, Class 4A will be at 1 p.m. with Class 5A to follow at 7 p.m.
Hutchinson Community College will host Class 2A, 3A and 1A. Kiowa County High School in Greensburg will host 8-Man I, II and 6-Man.
Other changes will be in 2026 state basketball will be moving to four total sites hosting seven classifications. Beginning this season, in 3A, 2A, 1A-DI and DII each class will be divided into four regions and then seeded into two sub-states.
Girls Wrestling will see four classifications, 6A, 5A, 4A and 3-1A to mirror boys wrestling. 3-1A will be in Hays and 4A will be in Salina. Park City Arena and one other site will be determined to host 6A and 5A.
In Track and Field, qualification for the state meet was adjusted to now be the top 3 plus the next four best regional performances in each event.
