In just a few days, the National Teachers Hall of Fame welcomes its Class of 2024 to Emporia.
The inductees — middle school music teacher Keith Ballard of San Diego, California; middle school history teacher Terry Kaldhusdal of Dousman, Wisconsin; high school English language arts teacher Shelly Moore Krajacic of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; former English success coach and current assistant principal Keishia Thorpe of Springdale, Maryland; and retired high school chemistry teacher Joel Truesdell of Kea’au, Hawaii — will arrive in Emporia on Monday. Also coming to Emporia will be the 2024 Education Support Professional of the year, paraeducator Jen Bramson of Park City, Utah.
As usual, there are a number of activities for the inductees, including an appearance on KVOE’s On-Air Chat at 10:06 am Wednesday, followed immediately by a proclamation at the Emporia City Commission meeting that morning. Also:
*The “Haught and Cold” ice cream social as part of the Emporia Municipal Band concert, 8 pm Thursday
*Rededication of the National Memorial to Fallen Educators, 10 am June 21
*Banquet and induction ceremonies, June 21 at the Memorial Union Webb Hall
Residents wanting to attend the banquet and official induction need to make reservations by calling the Hall of Fame at 620-341-5660. Individual tickets are $75 each, with tables of six guests available for $450. The reservation deadline is 5 pm Monday.
