Much is ahead for the Emporia Recreation Commission at its monthly meeting.
New business includes a notification to the Lyon County Clerk’s Office detailing the Rec Commission’s plans to exceed the revenue-neutral rate for budget purposes. Board members could also approve Empire Fence and Netting to replace the backstop netting at Soden’s Grove and the Peter Pan Park Flint Hills Optimist Fields, as well as roof damage for the Optimist complex.
Old business includes the possible approval of an at-large board member position.
Discussion points include an update on the Rec Center Steering Committee’s work and next steps after the advisory board approved BG Consultants and Kahler (KAY-ler) Slater as architecture firms and Hutton Corporation as the construction manager at risk to either expand and renovate the Lee Beran Rec Center or build a new public recreation facility. Updates are also planned for recent storm damage to the Rec Commission’s outdoor maintenance facility at Santa Fe Park, the 2024-25 budget and a refinishing project involving the Rec Center’s gymnasium, walking track and racquetball courts.
On top of that, two executive sessions are planned, one for personnel — specifically on Director Tom McEvoy’s contract — and another on non-elected personnel.
The meeting starts at 5:30 pm Monday at the Rec Center.
