When building a website, it’s important to have a clear vision before you actually start the work.
That was the thought process behind the new-look lyoncounty.org, which rolled out a few weeks ago. Communications Manager Vici Smith had a lot of research to do before the county began formally reaching out to potential partners.
Ultimately, Lyon County chose CivicPlus — the company that built the City of Emporia’s website at emporiaks.gov. Smith says it was important to have some layout familiarity between the two websites, but she also says the city website has more features because it has more connection and information points with its population.
Residents have a cleaner layout to navigate, with information readily available about county meeting agendas and minutes, career opportunities, Lyon County Area Transportation, land parcels, elections and maps at the top part of the home page. Lyon County’s re-emphasized road closure map is available, and residents can go to the bottom of the home page to learn more about accessibility adjustments if needed. The county’s social media links to Facebook, Instagram and X are also displayed.
