Emporia State head women’s basketball coach Brian Ostermann has added veteran John Ishee to his coaching staff for the 2024-25 season. Ishee spent the past four years as the head coach at Howard College in Texas. There he led the Hawks to a 41-62 record overall and a 13-44 mark in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. In 2022-23, he directed Howard to their first winning season in the past eight years. Ishee previously coached three years at Pratt Community College in Kansas and turned the Beavers program around from three wins in his first year to 20 in his second. Ishee, or ‘Coach Ish’, spent over 25 years in his career coaching at the Division I level including five years as the head coach at Southeast Missouri State where he was the 2007 Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year while leading the Redhawks to two OVC titles, one OVC tournament championship, and one appearance each in the WNIT and the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Hornets finished 14-16 with a 10-12 record in the MIAA in Coach Ostermann’s first year on the bench in Emporia.
