Two crashes unfolded in Wabaunsee County on Saturday, leading to one person hurt and another killed.
In the first wreck, a Junction City resident was transported to the hospital. The accident was reported just before 6:50 pm on Interstate 70 mile marker 322 westbound. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2020 Acura MDX was traveling westbound and entered the on-ramp at exit 322 and then exited to the left going airborne in the process. The vehicle then landed and flipped twice before coming to a rest. The driver, 27-year-old Cheikh A. Sall of Junction City was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka for suspected minor injuries. Sall was the only individual in the vehicle at the time of the accident and was wearing a seatbelt.
Around 9 pm, a UTV crashed west of Alma, killing the passenger. Troopers say the vehicle, driven by 50-year-old Brian Palenske of Basehor, was in a field in the 28000 block of Loire Creek Road when Palenske lost control and the UTV rolled. The passenger, 74-year-old Ray Palenske of Lenexa, was ejected and died at the scene. Neither were wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash.
