Lyon County deputies now say nearly 20 cattle had to be euthanized after Monday morning’s trailer wreck near Allen.
Deputy Fernando Zuniga says the crash near US Highway 56 and Road K happened just before 10 am and involved a trailer overturned in the highway’s north ditch. Zuniga says 35-year-old Thomas Romano of New York tried to make a right-hand turn onto Road K, but the rear passenger-side axle dropped into a ditch, halting the truck’s progress. A nearby farmer tried unsuccessfully to pull the semi, which flipped over onto its passenger side instead.
Zuniga says Romano was hauling 123 cows. The origination and destination points have not been announced.
