A controlled burn near Hartford went out of control early Thursday afternoon.
The fire developed near Roads 105 and X outside Hartford and was reported shortly before 12:30 pm. Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn tells KVOE News fire crews found about 45 acres on fire as they arrived. The fire was put out with no injuries and no issues.
Zumbrunn says there was an initial controlled burn of wheat stubble that got out of hand, causing the emergency response from Hartford-Neosho Rapids, Lyon County District 4 or Emporia Rural and the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge.
