The animal transport crash that killed nearly 20 cows near Allen on Monday has drawn the attention of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
PETA says it plans to memorialize the cows by placing a billboard near the crash site, saying the cows were “thinking, feeling individuals.” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk says, “Cows died in terror and pain because of this crash, and the traumatized survivors no doubt continued on to face the slaughterhouse knife. PETA urges everyone to please go vegan, saving cows from making the journey to the slaughterhouse in the first place.”
The crash Monday happened as a semi driver was trying to turn off US Highway 56 but went off the highway. The semi tipped over onto the passenger side when a nearby farmer tried unsuccessfully to tow the vehicle.
PETA says there have been at least 30 animal transport truck crashes this year.
