After a pleasant Sunday in the weather department, uncomfortable to dangerous conditions return to the KVOE listening area soon.
High temperatures will be around 90 degrees Monday, but they climb to around 100 for Tuesday with heat index readings as high as 107. As a result, heat advisories have returned to all area counties Tuesday. Advisory times are 12-8 pm areawide.
The return of sweltering heat follows a hot week last week that culminated with tornadic activity Friday evening. A trio of tornadoes formed in a broken line from between Admire and Reading to Melvern Lake, which suffered the worst of the damage at the marina and Couer d’Alene areas. The marina had several docks torn loose from their moorings, numerous boats damaged and part of the covered storage area’s roof blown off. Staffers say the marina is closed until further notice, including beyond the upcoming holiday weekend.
Tree damage was commonplace at the Couer d’Alene beach, which is also closed until further notice.
The Melvern Lake tornado and one that touched down five miles southwest of Osage City were listed as EF-0 with wind gusts up to 85 mph. The tornado that touched down between Admire and Reading was listed as EF-U, meaning an undetermined rating after National Weather Service investigators saw no damage.
The short-term forecast does not have any severe weather risk Monday, but there is a marginal-to-slight risk for all hazards, notably hail and wind, for Tuesday. All area counties are in a marginal risk area for Wednesday.
