Emporia Fire handled a pair of structure fires developing this weekend.
The first fire happened at 510 West, with firefighters dispatched just after 8:30 pm Saturday. Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says there was moderate smoke and fire coming from the back porch and the initial set of crews had to force open a locked door to start the firefighting effort. However, EFD was able to knock down the fire quickly.
Conley says the fire was limited to the back porch. The cause is undetermined and an estimated damage dollar amount is pending.
The second fire was reported at 2713 Regency, part of the West Hills Mobile Home Park, shortly before 5:40 am Sunday. Conley says there was heavy smoke coming from the windows and eaves of the mobile home when crews arrived, and first-arriving crews noted heavy fire from a hallway bedroom when they went inside.
As was the case on West Street, firefighters got the fire under control quickly. The fire was contained to a bedroom. The cause is undetermined and an estimated financial loss amount is pending.
There were no injuries with either incident.
