Isolated thunderstorms brought the prospect of severe weather and apparent heavy rain to parts of the KVOE listening area Thursday night.
Storms were spread apart, and the ones that established themselves were slow movers, traveling at 5 mph or less before they collapsed. They also stayed in largely rural areas. Radar estimates had 1-2 inches in some areas, according to the National Weather Service, but confirmed rain amounts are pending.
The rainfall Thursday evening follows isolated to widely scattered rainfall areawide early Thursday morning. Reported totals ranged from under 0.20 inches in places like Allen and directly between Olpe and Hartford to almost 1.7 inches near Bushong. The KVOE studios got 0.85 inches early Thursday and nothing Thursday evening.
Hot and sticky conditions are with us for several days. Air temperatures Friday and Saturday will approach 100 degrees, while high temperatures Sunday through Tuesday should be at or above 100. Heat index readings will be around 105 before storms return to the forecast Wednesday along with more seasonal temperatures.
