Members of the Street Cats Club wanted to double everything associated with Lolapalooza after a successful debut last year. That mission was accomplished.
Activities went from the 10 block of West Ninth to that green space and the 900 block of Commercial. Organizer Ashley Burris says it was a successful day.
The event raises money for the Lola Love Fund — and it also draws attention to the fund’s mission of helping residents who may have trouble paying for spay and neuter services. The development of the fund, named after Purralot Kitty Rescue founder Lola Walker, followed a major cat hoarding case from two years ago where over 80 cats were removed from an Emporia home. The owner started with five cats, didn’t realize two were pregnant and couldn’t keep up with medical care as more cats were born.
Residents who need help paying for spay and neuter medical services can visit streetcatsclub.org or find the Street Cats Club Facebook page.
