After two years of work, the Kiwanis Club of Emporia proudly gathered at Peter Pan Park Sunday afternoon to cut the ribbon on its centennial anniversary gift to the city of Emporia.
Back in 2022, the club announced that in honor of its 100 years of existence within Emporia, it was planning to construct a new shelter house at Peter Pan Park. Former President Shari Scribner says the project was a cooperative effort between Kiwanis and the city of Emporia.
Scribner adds, the club wanted to construct a project that served all populations within the community and would be a long-lasting resource for generations.
Additionally, several community partners would step up over the past few years to assist the project both fiscally and physically. Both Scribner and current President Debbie Williams offered their thanks to the community for its support and says it would not have been possible without their various partners.
While speaking with local media Sunday, Williams was asked “What’s next for Kiwanis” with the shelter house project now complete. Williams says there is nothing set in stone at this time, however, there are plenty of opportunities to keep the club busy in the future.
In addition to the ribbon cutting Sunday, the club also welcomed to the community for an ice cream social in the new shelter house which was well attended. For more information on the Kiwanis Club of Emporia, find them on Facebook.
